Mold is a type of fungus that is widespread throughout the planet. Mold spores are found on almost all surfaces and, when a nutrient and charitable environment is available, they quickly begin to form a colony. Mold has both useful (it is used to make penicillin and other medicines, in nature it plays the role of a medic) and harmful properties for humans (some types of mold can become pathogens). Mold spores have even been found in the stratosphere.
