What is organ degeneration and when does it occur?
Organ degeneration is a natural process in a living organism, which implies the destruction and further degeneration of the tissue structure. This process exists at the cellular level. The extreme stage is deterioration of functions and death. As an example, you can take the skin, which is continuously renewed. Some organisms do not notice these changes at all, in some the skin is shed at once (a new, thinner one has already formed under it). Another example is the atrophy of the mammary glands, when the feeding process is completed and, according to physiology, the body stops producing breast milk. Degeneration can also be pathological, with normal tissues changing to those that should not be present in the body. It may occur due to disruptions in protein, fat or carbohydrate metabolism (as an example, the formation of tumors, various diseases such as diabetes mellitus).
