What is ostracism? What role did he play in the life of the Athenians?

Ostrakism is an exile, a democratic procedure in ancient Greece. Any resident of Athens could write on a clay shard (a shard in Greek was called ostrakon), the cheapest and most accessible material of that time, the name of an objectionable politician who threatened the democracy of the state. If more than six thousand shards (votes) with the name of one person were recruited, then this person was forced to leave Athens for 10 years.
