What is the basis for compiling a tectonic map?

The tectonic map shows the tectonic structure of the earth’s surface: faults in the earth’s crust, stable areas of the earth’s surface (platforms), unstable areas of the earth’s surface (geosynclines), the main and largest volcanoes of our planet, seismic belts. Thus, the map depicts the internal structure of the planet Earth.
