What is the biological significance of fertilization?

Fertilization consists in the union of two gametes, as a result of which a zygote appears. From the resulting zygote, a new organism develops further.

The biological significance of this process is that when two cells unite, the lost chromosome set is restored. Since part of the chromosomes belongs to the father and the other part to the mother, the child’s body will combine the characteristics of both parents. And the genes of the new organism will be completely individual and will differ from the parental genes.
