What is the biological significance of mitosis?

Mitosis is a form of division of eukaryotic (having a formed nucleus) cells. Consists of four stages:

Prophases;
Metaphases;
Anaphase;
Telophase.

When dividing by mitosis, from one initial – the mother cell, two new – daughter cells are formed. Each of the daughter cells carries the same set of chromosomes as the mother. That is, if the mother cell has a double set of chromosomes, each of the daughter cells carries the same doubled set of chromosomes, and with a haploid cell, then the daughter cells will also carry a single set of chromosomes.
