What is the biological significance of mitosis?

Mitosis is a cycle of cell division, consisting of prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, leading to the formation of two cells with exactly the same genetic apparatus. Thanks to mitosis, organisms grow and develop (from the primary zygote), wound healing, change of hair, nails, the stratum corneum of the epidermis, the constancy of the number of blood cells (erythrocytes, platelets, leukocytes).
