The crayfish belongs to the Arthropod type.
Like all arthropods, it has a segmental body structure and a chitinous cover. The cover acts as an external skeleton and consists of the organic matter of chitin, impregnated with calcium salts. It is solid and durable, which is why the body of cancer and other representatives of the type consists of segments, otherwise movement would not be possible.
Thus, the chitinous cover serves as support and protection, but limits the growth of cancer. Therefore, crayfish periodically molt in order to grow.
