What is the chronological framework for the existence of Byzantium. Which city was its capital?

Byzantium has a chronological frame of AD 395-1453. However, such a name was given to it by foreigners, they called themselves “Romans”, that is, “Romans”, and the country – the Romeian state. They did not separate their history from Ancient Rome, because Constantinople became the capital of the still unified Roman Empire in the 330s of our era.

The capital was Constantinople, but in the 13th century, after plundering it by the crusaders, the Latin Empire (1204-1261) was founded, where it retained its capital status, in 1261 the city was liberated by Alexei Stratigopulus (general of the Nicene Empire, where the Greek dynasty of the Lascarids) and after that the continuity of the state was restored.
