What is the chronological framework for the existence of Byzantium. Which city was its capital?

Byzantium has a chronological frame of AD 395-1453. However, such a name was given to it by foreigners, they called themselves “Romans”, that is, “Romans”, and the country – the Romeian state. They did not separate their history from Ancient Rome, because Constantinople became the capital of the still unified Roman Empire in the 330s of our era.
