What is the difference and what is the similarity between Catholic and Orthodox churches?

Orthodox churches, their design and concept as a whole were inherited from the Byzantine Empire: churches look more like fortresses decorated with golden domes than church buildings, while Catholic churches are sophisticated and modest buildings based on Gothic architecture. Both Catholics and Orthodox Christians had underground corridors and rooms – catacombs under the main part of the church, and it was also obligatory to have a bell on top.
