What is the difference between 19th century theater and modern theater?

The main difference between the theater of that time is its spirituality. Then the theater occupied a very important place in the life of people. Society absorbed basic political and religious ideas from theatrical performances. Then they exposed all the gloomy aspects of reality, defended the interests of a person, and were responsible for many questions. Despite this, closer to the second half of the 19th century, strict censorship arose in the theater: work was slowed down by endless checks, reviews, and so on. Plays that hurt the interests of politicians, officials, officers were strictly prohibited. The directors did not have any kind of “overclocking” for creativity at that time. Almost everything that was shown in the theater was ordered from above.
Now we can see in the theater good quality performances by young directors who write their scripts from the heart, honestly and without any political overtones. A certain freedom of speech and creativity appeared.
