What is the difference between a river and a lake?

Rivers and lakes are irreplaceable sources of fresh water on our planet. But they have many and different features. A river is a body of water that invariably flows in a specific direction, creating a channel for itself. Rivers flow out most often from the mountains and then flow into large bodies of water. Lakes do not create channels for themselves, this is a certain depression in the earth’s crust, which is filled with water. The water in the lake is not necessarily fresh, as in the river, it can also be salty. The temperature of the lake is generally stable, while near the river it is subject to change.
