The difference between these magnifiers is that a hand held magnifier is a glass placed in a frame. It can be wooden, metal or plastic. A tripod magnifier has a base – a tripod, on which a stage with a hole, a mirror and glass in the eyepiece are attached. Therefore, hands remain free, which is convenient for viewing. The magnification of a tripod magnifier is greater than that of a manual magnifier.
