What is the difference between a unitary and a federal state?

A unitary state is a state whose administrative-territorial units do not have the status of a state formation. The constitution, legal system and government bodies are the same for the entire state. Parts of the federal state are also not sovereign, but have a certain independence, obeying the federal constitution, they can issue their own regional laws, rules, have their own coat of arms, capital, etc.
