What is the difference between active and passive immunity?

Active immunity develops when a person’s own cells produce antibodies in response to an infection or vaccine. It only provides relief after a long period. It has no side effects. Active immunity is long lasting.

Passive immunity develops when antibodies produced in other organisms are injected into a person against an opposing antigen such as snake venom. It provides immediate help, but it can provoke a reaction. Passive immunity is short-lived.
