What is the difference between oxygen allotropy and carbon allotropy?

The term allotrope refers to one or more forms of a chemical element that occur in the same physical state. Different shapes arise from different ways of connecting atoms together.

Graphite and diamond are allotropes of carbon that are solid. In diamond, carbon atoms are linked to form a tetrahedral lattice. In graphite, atoms are bonded to form sheets of a hexagonal lattice. Other carbon allotopes include graphene and fullerenes.

O2 and ozone, O3, are allotropes of oxygen. These allotropes exist in a variety of states, including gaseous, liquid, and solid.
