Latitudinal and altitudinal zoning occurs for different reasons and covers different scales. Latitudinal zoning appears due to the fact that the Earth is spherical, different amounts of solar energy are supplied to its different parts due to the shape, and the climate is different. Latitudinal zoning changes when moving from the equator to the poles. Altitude zoning changes due to the fact that with altitude in the mountains the temperature decreases, and therefore the zones here alternate from the base of the mountain to its top. The higher the mountain, the more zones it fits.
