What is the difference between the main climatic zone and the transitional one?

As a result of the different distribution of solar radiation and atmospheric precipitation on the earth’s surface, climatic zones are formed, which are diverse in their characteristics and properties. Each belt is characterized by its own temperature, amount of precipitation, and the presence of prevailing winds. There are 13 belts and they are divided into basic and transitional.

1) The main ones are:

– equatorial,

– tropical (northern and southern),

– moderate (north and south),

– arctic,

– Antarctic.

They correspond to the distribution of the main air masses (BM) of our planet.

2) Transitional includes:

– subequatorial (northern and southern),

– subtropical (northern and southern),

– subantarctic

– subarctic.

They are located between the main belts. In the transitional zones, in contrast to the main ones, the air masses change seasonally.

You can get acquainted with the distribution of climatic zones, both basic and transitional, in the geographical school atlas on the corresponding map. Each belt is highlighted in its own color.
