What is the difference between the nuclear family and the multigenerational family?

The nuclear family is a family with one “nucleus”, with one pair of spouses. Such a family consists of mom, dad, and children, if any. Or, if it is an incomplete family, only a mother with children or only a father with children. A multigenerational family is a family that has several generations of adults. Mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather, children. Perhaps also a great-grandmother and great-grandfather. Or someone is missing, for example, grandfather died, mom, dad, grandmother and children were left. Sometimes there is a family that is neither nuclear nor multigenerational. This is one that includes some other adults, besides the parents, but they are from the same generation. For example, mom, dad, children, and an unmarried aunt who lives with them.
