What is the difference between the Phoenician alphabet and the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing?

Unlike Egyptian writing, in Phoenician the sign did not denote a concept and a whole word, but a separate (in the Phoenician alphabet only a consonant) sound. Therefore, there were much fewer signs. Writing them down was easier than hieroglyphs.

This greatly simplified the study of writing, contributed to its spread among people.

The Phoenician alphabet could be tied to other languages, adapting it to the peculiarities of your dialect. Which, in particular, did the Greeks do. And already our people borrowed writing from them. Most of the writing systems originate precisely from the Phoenician alphabet.
