What is the difference between the school of the Middle Ages and the current one?

Schools of the Middle Ages were mainly located in monasteries. Thus, education was mainly received by priests and monks. The rest of the population remained illiterate, even the rulers. However, changes gradually took place. So in modern times, schools became available to the nobility and the upper classes. The intelligentsia was formed. For government officials, education has become compulsory. In modern times, schools have become public. Even peasants could receive education.
