What is the external structure of the sheet?

The leaf is the vegetative organ of the plant. It consists of a leaf blade and a petiole. The petiole is the part of the leaf that connects the leaf blade to the stem. Leaves that do not have a petiole are called sessile.
A simple leaf has one leaf blade, a complex leaf has several.
Each leaf has numerous veins – conducting bundles that connect the leaf to the stem. The veins of different leaves are located differently. Distinguish between reticular (feathery in birch, fingerlike in maple), arched (lily of the valley), parallel (wheat).
