What is the function of a cyst?

Cyst is a form of transfer of adverse conditions by unicellular, as well as by some animals (nematodes). Thanks to the dense membrane, the cyst protects the microorganism (for example, nitrogen-fixing bacteria and euglena) from the adverse effects of the environment (temperature, moisture loss, solar radiation). Protists can form a thin proliferation cyst within which cell division occurs. Parasitic forms use cysts to move from one host to another.
