What is the function of cambium?

Cambium is one of the layers of the stem. It consists of cells of educational tissue called the lateral meristem. Its cells are small, with large nuclei and are constantly dividing. Thus, the main function of the cambium is the growth of the stem in thickness: some of the cells formed as a result of cell division form a bast. the other part is wood. Growth stops in winter. The layer of wood that has formed during the spring, summer and autumn is called the growth ring. Growth rings do not form in tropical trees.
