What is the function of fats in the body?

Energy source. While carbohydrates are the body’s main source of fuel, your system is converted to fat as a backup source of energy when carbohydrates are not available. Fat is a concentrated source of energy.

Absorption of vitamins. Some types of vitamins rely on fat for absorption and storage. Vitamins A, D, E, and K, called fat-soluble vitamins, cannot function without adequate daily fat intake.

Insulation and temperature regulation. Fat cells stored in adipose tissue insulate the body and help maintain a normal body temperature.
