What is the function of sepals and petals?

Sepals and petals are part of the double perianth (which is why it is called double) of flowering plants. Their main functions are to protect the pistil and stamens of the flower at the bud stage from adverse environmental factors (including low or too high temperatures, as well as mechanical impact – primarily from the wind, which can damage the stamens or the pistil). In addition, the petals often act as bait for many insects that pollinate the flowers.
