What is the function of the circulatory system in insects?

In insects, the circulatory system is open, that is, hemolymph (a liquid that replaces blood for insects) can flow out of the vessels and interact with internal organs. The circulatory system of insects is rather poorly developed. This is primarily due to their respiratory system.

The functions performed by the circulatory system of insects include:

– providing organs and tissues of the insect’s body with nutrients;

– transfer of unnecessary substances to the excretory organs;

– respiratory function, which is not very pronounced.
