What is the function of the core?

The core is the inner, thick layer of cells underneath the cambium, which are part of the stem or root. This layer arises from the core meristem of the apex. These cells consist of loose parenchymal tissue, the membranes of which are not lignified. The outer layers have the function of an educational tissue. In the cells of the core, nutrients such as starch, oils, tannins are deposited.
