What is the function of tubulin?

Tubulin is a protein from which microtubules (structures that make up the cytoskeleton) are built. Tubulin is a target for anticancer drugs (taxol, docetaxel, paclitaxel) and colchicine. Colchicine binds to tubulin, preventing microtubule formation. This property is used to obtain artificial polyploids and in the treatment of gout (colchicine reduces the mobility of neutrophils, thereby contributing to the decline of the inflammatory process).
