What is the general property of organic substances?

Organic substances, unlike inorganic ones, are formed in the cells of living organisms. They have a number of characteristic features:

– consist of organogenic elements: O, H, C, N, while the presence of C and H is mandatory;

– C atoms form chains and cycles in which they are connected in series;

– have high molecular weights;

– many are biopolymers;

– many exhibit biological activity, i.e. in small doses affect the metabolic rate;

– are oxidized, with the release of energy.
