What is the geographic latitude from?

Geographic latitude is measured from the equator line. At the very equator, the coordinates correspond to 0 °. Those geographic features that are located south of the equator are indicated by the coordinates of the south latitude, and those to the north are designated by the coordinates of the north latitude. For example, Eurasia and North America are completely north of the equator, and all objects belonging to these continents have coordinates of northern latitude. And Australia and Antarctica are located completely south of the equator, and, accordingly, all objects on these continents belong to the southern latitude.
