What is the main function of the colon in the human body?

The large intestine is the last, final section of the intestinal tube. The digestion of food is completed here. In the cavity of the colon, the food lump loses water (it is absorbed back) and feces are formed. The large intestine is also home to bacteria that help produce some of the vitamins. Constant, “own” microflora in the intestine does not allow pathogenic bacteria to settle here and prevents the development of infections.
