What is the main function of the diencephalon?

The diencephalon is a cluster of neurons located around the third ventricle and form its lateral, upper and lower walls. The accumulation of neurons in the lateral walls is the thalamus, the lower ones are the hypothalamus and the upper ones are the epithalamus.

The main task of the diencephalon is to regulate motor reflexes of the body, coordinate the work of internal organs, as well as carry out metabolism, maintain body temperature, and the like.
