The strait between Eurasia and North America is called the Bering Strait.
It was named so out of respect for the Russian officer Vitus Bering. Peter I sent him on a voyage to find a passage between the continents of Asia and America. Bering coped with this task in 1728 and was entrenched in history as the discoverer of the strait.
