What is the origin of the Sea of Azov?

The Sea of Azov was formed when the Crimean mountains “rose” and separated the Black Sea to form the Kerch Strait. The Crimean mountains with their “uplift” formed the Crimean peninsula which separates the Azov and Black seas.
