What is the originality of the architecture of Kievan Rus?

The peculiarities of architecture in Kievan Rus consisted in the fact that for a long time in Russia buildings were only made of wood. No capital stone structures were built. This is largely due to the availability of wood as a building material. After the baptism of Russia, not only religion, rituals, but also the canons of construction were adopted. It was in the Byzantine manner that temples, libraries and other structures began to be built. Churches, temples and cathedrals began to be built on the model of the Byzantine ones – with domes. Also, it was from the Byzantines that the idea of fortifying cities, the creation of stone defensive and protective structures was adopted.
