Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin orchestrated the main themes from the opera Carmen and the suite Arlesienne by Georges Bizet. The orchestra’s score pays great attention to percussion instruments. Drums, bells and castanets gave a special sound to the music of the ballet. They emphasized the bright and extraordinary choreography, created especially for Maya Plisetskaya.
