What is the peculiarity of the life cycle of the human immunodeficiency virus?

The AIDS virus – HIV – is a retrovirus. Its genetic material is RNA. It affects the cells of the immune system. When it enters the host cell, reverse transcription occurs, in which DNA is synthesized on the basis of viral RNA, which is then incorporated into the host cell (into the DNA of the host cell). Then, when the cell is dividing, the viral DNA is copied simultaneously with the copying of the cellular DNA. After a certain time, cells begin to synthesize viral RNA proteins, from which viral particles are assembled. HIV thus destroys lymphocytes – T-helpers. As a result, the person’s immune system is destroyed.
