What is the precipitation pattern in California?

California is an American state located on the Pacific coast (west side). In the eastern part of California, it is washed by the Gulf of California. California is known for its climatic diversity, which determines the rainfall regime on the peninsula. Much of California is characterized by a Mediterranean climate, resulting in rainy winters and dry summers. Westerly winds from the ocean bring moisture, and therefore more abundant precipitation is characteristic of the northern part.
