What is the principle behind the classification of organisms by K. Linnaeus?

Karl Linnaeus is an outstanding natural scientist. He made a great contribution to such a science as botany with his classification of plants. The Linnaean system is based on the designation of an organism in two Latin words. The first of them speaks of the genus of the plant, the second is the specific name.

When creating his classification, the scientist relied on the sexual characteristics of plants: the number, shape and types of flowers, inflorescences, quantitative and qualitative characteristics of pistils and stamens. Therefore, another name for this system is the reproductive system of plants.
