What is the principle of separation of powers?

The principle of separation of powers is a political and legal theory and practice, from the point of view of which state power is to be divided into branches independent from each other (most often: legislative, judicial and executive). This practice is based on a system of checks and balances, according to which mutual control and mutual influence of the branches of government allows us to fight the concentration of power in the hands of one person or state body.
