What is the reaction if you mix baking soda with vinegar?

Vinegar is the diluted form of acetic acid, and baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) is the base. When you mix the two together, the solution starts to become bubbly and frothy. This produces carbon dioxide and sodium acetate, which then begin to decompose and form carbon dioxide and water, causing foamy bubbles, since CO2 is heavier than the air around it. The equation can be written like this:

NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 → NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2.

The reaction results are a dilute acetic acid solution.
