What is the reason for the degeneracy of the genetic code?

The genetic code is a universal way to encode information in all living things. One of its properties is degeneracy. Degeneracy means that many amino acids can be encoded by more than one code. This was invented by evolution for the safety of the synthesis of new proteins, since often the messenger RNA from which it is read can be accidentally damaged, and one nucleotide will be replaced by another. In order to reduce the risk of synthesizing the wrong proteins, degeneracy exists.
