Oxygen has a very high electronegativity, as a result of which a strong negative charge is formed on the oxygen atom in the water molecule, and a positive charge on the hydrogen atoms. Due to this, under the action of electrostatic forces, water molecules are attracted to each other (so-called hydrogen bonds arise). This explains the abnormally high density of water, freezing and boiling points, etc.

In hydrogen sulfide, this effect is practically not observed.
