What is the role and main directions of the UN activity in the modern world?

The UN was created in order to regulate the relations of the participating countries, to maintain peace between the states. Now the UN has more than 70 areas in which this organization works. Human rights, economic and social development of states, protection of the environment and cultural heritage, improvement of health care, etc. – all of this is included in the list of areas that the UN is currently dealing with. However, it should be noted that this organization does not always fulfill its direct functions, often simply not interfering in difficult political situations.
