What is the role of chloroplasts in the cell?

Chloroplasts are food manufacturers. These organelles are found only in plant cells and in some protozoa such as algae. Animal cells do not have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts work to convert energy from the sun into sugars that can be used by cells. The whole process is called photosynthesis, and it all depends on the little green chlorophyll molecules in each chloroplast.
