What is the role of the church, the priests in the Calvinist church?

The best example of a Calvinist church is the Church of Switzerland. The priest is given a less important role here than in Catholicism. He ceases to rise above other people as one who possesses divine truth, and becomes an ordinary organizer of church services. Less attention is also paid to the external attributes of the liturgy. For example, the significance of icons is minimized, since it is believed that prayer is an appeal to God, and not to an image. Believers become as independent as possible and practically no longer need a shepherd.
