What is the role of the people’s militia in the fight against the Polish-Lithuanian invaders?

During the Time of Troubles, the threat of Russia’s independence loomed. The Poles were already operating in Moscow, and the Polish prince Vladislav was crowned with the Russian crown. Vasily Shuisky, who at the time of the beginning of the Polish intervention, was the king, asked for help from the Swedes, in return he promised to give the Novgorod lands. Thus began the Polish-Swedish intervention and by 1611 the situation was out of control. Then the forces of the people assembled the First Zemsky Militia in Ryazan to fight the Poles, but the organizers were killed by traitors, and the militia broke up. At the same time, in 1611, the Second Zemsky Militia, led by Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and the city head Kuzma Minin, gathered in Nizhny Novgorod. The militias created the “Council of the Whole Earth”, the body leading the actions of the militia. In Yaroslavl, the people joined them. From August to November, the people’s militia is fighting the Poles in Moscow and in early November expels the invaders from the capital. Thanks to the people, Russia was able to defend its independence, and the Time of Troubles will soon end.
