What is the significance of the ability of DNA molecules to self-duplicate?

The ability of DNA to duplicate is important. When cells divide, half of the DNA from the nucleus is transferred to the new cell. Further, the amount of deoxyribonucleic acid is reduced in two cells. So they can share over and over again. If this ability did not exist, then only ten divisions from the initial amount of genetic material in the cell would remain about 0.01% of the DNA. And cells divide thousands of times. In just a few divisions, DNA simply would not have been enough. And with the ability of DNA to duplicate, the cell has the ability to divide an unlimited number of times.
