What is the significance of the apical kidney?

A bud is the rudiment of a plant shoot. The apical or terminal bud is located at the end of the shoot. Due to the development of the apical bud, the shoot grows in length. By the location of the apical bud, you can determine where the growth of the shoot ended during the growing season. The apical kidney consists of educational tissue – the apical or apical meristem, which forms a cone of growth. The division of meristem cells leads to the formation of various tissues of the young shoot. If the apical bud is damaged, the shoot develops from the lateral bud and the plant grows crooked.
